This is the only post I can manage to publish about Whitney Elizabeth Houston.
Today has been spent (inadvertently or not) celebrating many of my musical idols and events that made me as connected to music as I am today. Whitney Houston’s voice has been attached to more memories in my life than any other singer I’ve ever known. She means ten times as much to another huge influence of mine: Brandy (whose birthday is today). And as I stood in Sale Hall Chapel to practice for A Night in Harlem, I was continually reminded of being in that same chapel as a freshman, singing publicly for the first time since I was 8.
There is no way to explain the debt I feel I owe these artists and experiences. I’ve grown up in music. Learned how to navigate most aspects of my life through music. Whitney Houston was a prime example of that. Her voice continues to teach me with every listen.

Remember when everyone played Temple Run?
Remember the Alamo?
Remember the Titans?

“I’ve hit rock bottom - Funny thing is, you spend your life circling the bottom, fooling yourself that you’re not actually circling the bottom, clinging to those parts of your existence you think you need to survive, but are, in fact, the very reason you’re circling the bottom. Human nature… who the fuck designed us, right?!”
